Step 2: Choose the right materials for the TV bracket

Tips for mounting tv to the wall | Vogel's

The mounting materials you need to securely install your TV bracket depends on the type of wall you have. You can read what you need for the different types of walls below.

We make installation as easy as possible!

  • We supply screws that are suitable for virtually any TV.

  • The plugs and screws needed for mounting on brick  or massive walls are included. As are the screws for mounting your TV safely and easily on the wall mount itself, of course.

  • The convenient Vogel's app helps you to determine the location of the first drill hole.

  • In addition to the user manual supplied, you can also find handy installation videos on YouTube.

Step 3: Determine the type of wall you want to mount your TV on

In principle, you can mount a Vogel's TV bracket and your television on almost any wall. But each type of wall has certain properties that need to be taken into account.

That means it is important to know which materials were used to build the wall.

You can find the various types of wall that are typically used in Western European homes here.

Tip: There is often stucco, wallpaper or a layer of paint on the wall. Follow these steps to find out which type of wall you have. Drill a number of holes next to each other in a place that is out of sight. For example, behind a cupboard or painting. Or take down a skirting board. The holes allow you to quickly see what kind of wall you have without causing too much damage!

The different wall types

  1. Stone or concrete wall

  2. Hollow stud wall

  3. Dry interior wall made of plasterboard

  4. Aerated concrete/gas concrete wall

  5. Perforated or hollow brick wall

  6. Hollow concrete block or masonry block wall

Take a look at these handy tips:

Drilling tips for brick or concrete walls

Drilling tips:

  • Using a hammer drill or impact drill is ideal.

  • Pre-drill the holes with a smaller sized drill bit than necessary.

  • Clean the drill holes with a vacuum cleaner

  • Only then should you drill at the indicated thickness of the drill bit.

  • Clean it again with the vacuum cleaner in order to optimise the grip of the plug.

Mounting tips:

Wall type 2: Mounting on a hollow stud wall

Can I mount my TV on a hollow wall plasterboard with studs?

We get this question a lot. You cannot mount a TV on the plasterboard itself. But Hollow walls are usually constructed from metal studs or a wooden framework.

You can safely mount your TV on a hollow wall made of plasterboard with wooden studs. Want to know how to do this safely? We explain it step-by-step in this special instructional page.

A wall with metal studs always needs to be reinforced before mounting a TV wall mount.
We explain step-by-step in this special instructional page:

Wall type 3: How to mount on a dry interior plasterboard wall

Has the plasterboard been attached to the wall using plasterboard adhesive? In that case, you are probably dealing with a dot & dab wall. In this case you need to be sure that the wall behind the plasterboard is a massive brick wall. How can you be sure of that? Check the tips under 1. or ask a constructor or specialist to inform you.

Facing plasterboard, also means that you need to drill extra deep (even into the massive brick wall), with extra-long screws. It is important to use plugs and screws that are suitable for this. Vogel's does not provide these materials.

Does your wall have a thick layer of plaster? That also needs to be taken into account. A thick layer of plaster is not the same as a brick wall. Always consult a specialist or constructor.

Wall type 4: Mounting on aerated concrete/gas concrete

Is the wall on which you wish to mount your TV made of cellular concrete, aerated concrete or Ytong blocks? Then you should take the following into account:

  • Minimum wall thickness 100 mm.

  • Also check the minimum quality of the aerated concrete present. It must be G4/600 (compressive strength 4 N/mm2, volume weight < 600 kg/m3).

  • We can recommend our COMFORT Series TV wall mounts or ELITE Series TV wall mounts.

  • In the case of a full-motion wall bracket, take into account a maximum weight of 35 kg for your TV screen.

  • As Vogel's recommends using Fischer Duopower 10 x 80 mm plugs with 8 x 90 screws. These are not included with any Vogel's product.

  • Do not set your drill in the hammer or impact drill position.

  • Pre-drill the holes with a smaller sized drill bit than necessary, which will produce better results.

  • Clean the drill holes with a vacuum cleaner for a better grip of the plug.

  • Only then should you drill at the indicated thickness of the drill bit and don't forget to clean the holes again with the vacuum cleaner.

Wall type 5: Mounting on perforated or hollow bricks

Will your TV be mounted on a perforated or hollow brick wall? In this case, the wall will require extra reinforcement. To ensure a safe installation, it is important for the load to be distributed across a larger part of the wall.

TVA 6950 stud adapter

This adapter provides wood hollow walls with the extra reinforcement needed and is the perfect fit for our best-selling COMFORT wall mounts. As an alternative to the stud adapter, you can also reinforce the wall by attaching a thick wooden plate to the wall, for example.

Other installation tips:

  • Vogel's recommends Fischer Duopower 10 x 80 mm plugs with 8 x 90 screws in combination with the Vogel's adapter TVA 6950 or reinforcing plate.

  • Do not set your drill in the hammer or impact drill position.

  • For better accuracy: Pre-drill the holes with a smaller sized drill bit than necessary first and clean the drill holes with a vacuum cleaner.

  • Only then should you drill at the indicated thickness of the drill bit and don't forget to vacuum the holes again for a better grip of the plug.

Wall type 6: How to mount your TV on a hollow concrete block or masonry block wall

Is your wall made of hollow concrete blocks, brickwork blocks or ceramic blocks? You should take the following into account before installing your Vogel's wall mount and your TV:

  • The mounting materials supplied by Vogel's can be used. However, we recommend using Fischer Duopower 10 x 80 mm plugs with 8 x 90 screws for this type of wall.

  • Do not set your drill in the hammer or impact drill position.

  • For greater accuracy, pre-drill the holes with a smaller sized drill bit than necessary.

  • Clean the drill holes with a vacuum cleaner for a better grip of the plug.

  • Only then should you drill at the indicated thickness of the drill bit and don't forget to vacuum the holes again.

Is the type of wall you have not included here? You can always contact a local DIY store for advice. Take pictures and make a note of the total weight of your TV and TV mount.
